Kiyo Asaoka

Kiyo Asaoka began her flamenco journey in 1998 with Arte Flamenco Spanish Dance Company launching a 25-year career as a dedicated performer choreographer and educator. She has collaborated with diverse artists to create and direct dynamic performances while studying with numerous flamenco masters from Spain."

Alongside her creative work, Kiyo has also found fulfillment in teaching, sharing her passion and expertise with others.

A lifelong learner, Kiyo continues to deepen her understanding of puro-flamenco through ongoing study with flamenco masters from Spain and Canada. She has also developed her own unique style of flamenco and Japanese influences, resulting in original works that respect traditional forms while exploring new creative possibilities.

Beyond her work as a flamenco dancer, Kiyo is a committed organizer within the Toronto flamenco community. Since 2016, she has been managing Tablao Flamenco Toronto, where she curates monthly flamenco performances and occasional workshops, bringing together both local and international artists. Through her efforts, Kiyo's mission is to keep flamenco alive and accessible, fostering a vibrant community for future generations.

Kiyo believes that flamenco is a universal art form—free from politics, inclusive, and welcoming to all. Her love and passion for flamenco are unwavering, and she remains dedicated to its growth and preservation.
