Esmeralda Enrique Spanish Dance Company

Passionate and driven, the Esmeralda Enrique Spanish Dance Company continues to enthrall audiences with its commitment to imaginative choreography and artistic excellence.

The company’s focus has always been on creativity and progress. Their own concert events, Flamenco Passion of 1998, Poeta of 1999, Alma Flamenca, (rated by NOW magazine as one of the Top Five dance performances in 2000), Al-Andalus, Flamenco’s Moorish Roots of 2001, Picasso Flamenco of 2002, and Cádiz, Heart of Flamenco of 2003, were sold out events, receiving enthusiastic reviews from the press. Recognized as exceptional, the company was invited to be part of Harbourfront Centre’s Dance Season 2004-2005 presenting “Queen of the Gypsies, A Tribute to Carmen Amaya” which was hailed as their “best show yet”. “Mundo Flamenco” of 2005, explored the spiritual and physical connection with our world and each other. “Esencia Flamenca” of 2006 brought together high quality musicians and finely wrought pieces intended to capture the essence of flamenco.

Cross-cultural collaborations figure prominently in company activities and include successful collaborations with Joanna De Souza’s Chhandam Dance Company of kathak dancers with the Toronto Tabla Ensemble as well as performances with the Hannaford Street Silver Band. The company has been performing at the Hispanic Fiesta in Toronto since its inception 26 years ago. Many years of performing at fFIDA (fringe Festival of Independent Dance Artists) and Tarragon’s Spring Arts Fair brought popularity and acclaim.

The Company maintains a busy performance schedule and is available for touring locally, nationally and internationally as well as private functions.
